Features of growth and development of Melissaofficinalis L. when it is cultivated in the Republic of Mordovia

Abstract

The paper presents study results of Melissa officinalis L . cultivation in conditions of the Republic of Mordovia. They demonstrate that plant height, number of stems per plant, seed productivity and leafy mass yield are mainly determined by weather conditions, character of plant use and number of mowings. The fertilization increased in average the leafy mass yield of M. officinalis from 3.05 kg/m² to 3.25-4.00 kg/m² over 2 years. Methods for plant harvesting had a remarkable influence on the percentage of overwintered plants. The best preservation of plants ensures their use as a seed material.
