Initially "Bulletin of the SNBG" was published in 1929-1935 as separate thin booklets – guidelines for cultivation of various crops. 19 such issues were published in total.

In its modern form, the Bulletin began to be published in 1956. In 1956-1957 it was called "Bulletin of scientific and technical information of the SNBG", and afterwards received the name which remained till now – "Bulletin of the State Nikitsky Botanical Gardens" (abbreviated – "Bulletin of the SNBG"). In 1979, the publication was given the international standard serial number – ISSN 0513-1634.
