Author Guidelines
Author Guidelines (pdf)
The editorial staff do not enter into a discussion with the Authors! They also do not bring Manuscripts to the required scientific and technical level. If the Authors do not comply with the Rules of the journal, the Editorial board reserves the right to reject the material.
Articles in Russian and English that have not been previously published or submitted to other journals and collections of papers are accepted for publication (with the exception of abstracts and materials from conferences, symposiums, meetings, etc.). The journal does not publish short reports.
The manuscript is signed by all the authors. A separate page contains information about the authors of the article, indicating their place of work, position, academic degree, institution address and contact information for feedback (e-mail of all authors, indicating the author for correspondence).
NOTE: Articles by graduate students and applicants are accompanied by the review of the supervisor. An author's team of no more than 6 people is allowed.
The total volume of the manuscript (A4): 8-18 typewritten pages. Review articles are of 20-25 pages. This volume includes an abstract, summary, tables, figures, and a list of references. In some cases, on the recommendation of the reviewer and in agreement with the Editorial board, it is allowed to increase the volume of the manuscript. Tables and figures should not occupy more than 1/3 of the volume of the manuscript without including the list of references.
All articles undergo independent anonymous review and verification in “Anti-Plagiarism” system. No more than 3 checks are allowed. The level of originality of the text is at least 70% (excluding self-citations). Articles in which, when checked in “Anti-Plagiarism” system or during the review process, the use of AI content was discovered will not be accepted for publication!!!
The Editorial board reserves the right to shorten the texts of the manuscripts in agreement with the authors. When the Editorial board sends an article for correction and revision, the author is given a two-week period.
All published materials are sent to the editorial office of the journal via the website or by e-mail: redact-nbs@mail.ru
The manuscript should be typed in the WinWord text editor. The file with the manuscript must be saved as a Word 97-2003 document!!! (if a later version is sent and opened in an earlier or later version, the text is incorrectly formatted).
The text of the manuscript is typed in Times New Roman fonts, font size is 12 size, line spacing is single (except for annotations, keywords, figures and tables, which are typed in 10 pt font – see templates (docs, pdf)). The following page parameters are set: A4 format, portrait orientation, all margins 2.5 cm, paragraph indentation 1.25 cm. Formulas are inserted using Microsoft Equation 3.0. (Insert Object), special icons («°», «"») – through the Insert Character. If there are several formulas in the work, then they are numbered in parentheses at the end of the line. The pages are not numbered (see here and further Design example).
It is necessary to adhere to the nomenclature adopted in modern catalogs and reference books, with a mandatory reference to the source. Taxa should be written in accordance with the rules of the international codes of zoological or botanical nomenclature. Each name of a taxon cited in the text should be accompanied, at the first mention in the text, in the annotation, as well as in the captions to tables and figures, with an indication of the author(s). In subsequent mentions of the species, the author's name and the year of description should not be indicated, and the genus name should be given in abbreviated form. Latin names of genera and species should be italicized. Latin names of higher taxa and the names of authors describing species, genera, etc. should not be italicized.
Acronyms of Herbariums should be listed according to the Index Herbariorum (http://sweetgum.nybg.org/ih/). The names of genera and taxa with a rank below the genus are given in italics, the authors – in straight font.
The names of syntaxons are given in a straight font. The names of varieties and cultivars are given in single slash quotes. For example, the ʹKruzhevnitsaʹ variety.
When using Russian names of species, it is unacceptable to shorten the genus and use transliteration. For example: Common hawthorn, but not H. common and not Hawthorn vulgaris.
On the first page of the manuscript, the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) index is placed in the upper-left corner. The font size is 12 size.
The name of the work is written in capital letters (12 size, bold). It is necessary to provide the most accurate possible title of the work, which should be short (no more than 10 words), but informative enough and, if possible, reflect the main result of the work. It is not recommended to start the title with the words "Studying ..." or "On the question of ...". Specific epithets are italicized.
The names, patronymics and last names of the authors should be written in full. The font size is 12 size, bold, lowercase letters.
Institution (affiliation). The name of the institute, city, country, postal address, and e-mail of all authors are indicated. The word "e-mail" is not written. The font size is 12 size.
Abstract (10 size). The text (no less than 10 and no more than 15 lines) should be read independently of the work and fully reflect the content: the significance of this work and the specific results obtained. The abstract is an autonomous part of the manuscript, therefore, the abbreviations and symbols introduced into it should be deciphered here or not used. Specific epithets are written without abbreviations.
Key words (5-7) are separated by commas (10 size, italics). Keywords should not be abstract, vague, but clear, in the essence of the work, so that they can be easily found in all the variety of published material. They should expand and specify the topic, and not duplicate the title of the work.
Introduction: an introductory part in which the authors present and justify the relevance of the work, novelty, significance, a brief overview of the challenge being solved and justification for the formulation of the work. In this section, the authors have the opportunity to provide modern references to literature (including foreign literature), arguing the relevance and significance of their work. At the end of the introduction, one work goal is necessarily set (tasks are not specified).
Bibliographic references within the text are given in parentheses. In this case, the last name of the author of the publication without initials and the year of publication are indicated, for example: (Ivanov, 1999). If the publication has two authors, both their last names and the year of publication are indicated, for example: (Gihr, Smith, 2001). The works of three or more authors are cited as follows: (Gatsby et al., 1998; Dobrov et al., 2000). When referring to several publications, the links in parentheses are arranged in chronological order, for example: "In a number of works (Smirnov, 1978; Smith and Gatsby, 1998; Pavlova et al., 2001)...". However, if the works of the same year are cited, the references are arranged in alphabetical order (first Russian, then foreign last names). (see the article template (docs, pdf)).
The section "Objects and methods of research" contains information about the object of research (with Russian and Latin names), the conditions of cultivation and maintenance of microorganisms, higher plants and animals (as well as where the culture for research came from), the sequence of operations during the experiment, the devices, reagents used in the work. In addition to the reference to the methodology, its brief and understandable description is given. The setting of the experiment and the methodology should be clearly and reproducibly spelled out.
References to the methods described in short reports, theses, abstracts of dissertations and in dissertations are not recommended. In addition to the standard, generally accepted and frequently used methods, one should not limit oneself only to referring to the original source. It is recommended to provide a summary of the analysis procedure or its principle. References to methods such as "... were determined by the method (Kushnirenko et al., 1987)" or "as in (Dobrov et al., 2000)" are not allowed.
When mentioning devices and equipment, the company name is indicated in the original language (in quotation marks) and the country (in parentheses).
In the final part of the methodological section (and additionally in the captions to the tables and figures) it is necessary to provide statistical information about the presented results. It is necessary to specify the methods of statistical data processing and the tools used, as well as the parameters of data variability (standard deviation, standard error of the mean, etc.), identify statistical criteria (methods) for assessing the reliability of differences between averages (arithmetic, geometric, etc.). At the same time, it is necessary to use biological replications rather than analytical ones to calculate the reliability of differences. Statistical processing of all quantitative data is recommended.
In the description of the methodology, it is necessary to explain what the "±" sign means in the tables and the bars on the charts: standard error or standard deviation. You should also specify what the numbers and dots on the graphs represent.: 1) the average value calculated for a certain number of repetitions (biological or analytical) within a single experiment; 2) the average value of a "characteristic" experience from a series, obtained on the basis of several independent experiments.
When the text mentions "the data do not differ statistically significantly", the significance level is indicated in parentheses (for example, p = 0.453; p < 0.05). All statistical symbols are written in italics.
The section "Results and discussion" should contain a description of the experimental data obtained with tables and figures that do not duplicate each other. It is strongly recommended to start this section with a small introductory word, rather than providing the data immediately (1-2 sentences). It is recommended to present the results in the past tense. The presentation of the results should consist in identifying the discovered patterns, and not in a mechanical retelling of the contents of tables and graphs.
The discussion should not repeat the results of the study. It is necessary to summarize and explain (interpret) the results. It is recommended to discuss not only the individual effects obtained, but also their totality as a whole, revealing the cause-and-effect relationships between them. The authors should compare the information they receive with the information available in the literature and show what its novelty is. It is necessary to analyze modern periodical literature, including foreign literature.
The manuscript ends with a section Conclusions (clear, concise sentences, under numbers) or Conclusion (solid text). The conclusion is a very brief and concrete result of the work done: no references to tables, literature, or diagrams are provided, only specific suggestions about what the authors have done (proved) in this work. Conclusions or conclusions should correspond to the stated purpose of the study.
Requirements for tables (see the design of tables in the template (docs, pdf)):
They are located in the text at the place of mention with a link (Table 1).
The material presented in the table should be self-contained: understandable without additional reference to the text of the manuscript. To do this, the table header should be as informative as possible. The columns in the tables should be titled or have a clear explanation below the table. Latin names should be written in full in table names.
At the bottom of the table there should be a decoding of all abbreviations, etc.
Tables in horizontal format are not accepted.
Requirements for figures (see the design of figures in the template (docs, pdf)):
Illustrations (drawings, graphs, diagrams, etc.) in good quality are inserted into the text at the place where they are mentioned (Fig. 1). All figures are made in full-color or black-and-white. The figures must be of good resolution and readable (all axes are highlighted in black and signed). The author must be indicated under the name of the photo. The font in the figures (axes, legend, axis values) is Times NR, size from 10 to 14 (depending on readability), font is black.
Figures (diagrams, diagrams, etc.) should contain all the necessary designations of coordinate axes, curves, and other details. Only the measured value and its dimension should be indicated on the axes. All clarifications should be included in the title of the drawing or the caption.
In the names of the figures, the Latin names of the taxa are written in full.
The maximum size of the illustrations is 17.5 × 20 cm. Charts and graphs should not duplicate tables.
The list of references (see the design of the literature in the template (docs, pdf)) (Font size – 12 size).
The list of references should contain at least 30% of references to material published in leading scientific journals over the past 5-10 years (but in substance) (excluding own articles and regional collections, information about which is not available).
No more than 20% self-citation is allowed.
The list of cited works should be relevant and scientific, it is necessary to cite and cite significant works, the original source of which can be found and linked to the work.
The number of acceptable sources of literature for a research article is 15-20, for a review article – 25-50 sources.
Bucketloads of links should be avoided, giving preference to reviews and works from recent years.
It is strongly recommended not to provide links to abstracts of reports, textbooks, dissertations and their abstracts, articles from uncensored sources, unknown conferences, or materials from those conferences and sources that are available only to the author of the published work. The DOI is indicated for the work, if any.
In the list, all the works are listed in alphabetical order, without numbering. Each source is mentioned in the list once, regardless of how often it is referenced in the text of the work.
All authors are indicated. The names of the authors are shown in italics. All output data is indicated: if it is a collection, the editor(s), the date and place of the event, the city and the publisher.
The design is done according to the standard (see the Rules for the design of the manuscript).
References to unpublished works are not allowed.
When presenting the material, it is preferable to use standard abbreviations, with a large number of non-standard abbreviations, their interpretation is given in the text at the first mention. The designation of amino acid residues, sugars, and nucleic acid bases is usually given in Latin transcription.
It is mandatory to use only one type of quotation marks in your work: « » in the Russian part of the text, " " in the English part of the text. Keep in mind that it is necessary to distinguish between a hyphen (-) and a dash (–). When adding tenths and hundredths of values, the fractions are separated by commas, not dots, for example: 4.35, 2.049. Geographical coordinates should be indicated using an Insert Character, for example: 56°28'10"N, 84°56'51"E. The % sign, °C and values are written together (34%; 28°C), as well as intervals with dashes (45–60 cm; [16–19]). The abbreviation "above sea level" is written like this: a.s.l.).
Electronic resources:
The International Standard Number (ISSN, ISBN, ISMN, DOI, and others) is a mandatory element of the bibliographic record. It is brought in if it is known.
The URL abbreviation is given before the email address. After the address, you must specify the date when the resource was accessed. Note "Access mode" is only for specifying the features of access to resources (by subscription, on a local network, etc.).
